Job Description

Position Summary:

The Healthcare Aide (HCA) provides essential support to patients and clients in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living, and home care. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse or healthcare professional, the HCA assists with daily living activities, personal care, and basic healthcare tasks, promoting comfort, dignity, and well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene
  • Aid with mobility and transfers, including lifting and positioning patients safely
  • Support clients during mealtimes: feeding, preparation, and monitoring dietary needs
  • Observe and report changes in a client’s physical or mental condition to the healthcare team
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to clients and their families
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in client environments (e.g., changing linens, sanitizing equipment)
  • Assist with basic medical tasks such as taking vital signs and recording intake/output, as directed
  • Promote and support client independence and dignity in care delivery
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, infection control practices, and organizational policies

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved Healthcare Aide certificate program
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (Level C)
  • Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening
  • Physical ability to carry out care-related tasks, including lifting and prolonged standing
