Personal Support Worker (PSW)

Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide high-quality personal care and assistance to clients in [home settings/long-term care facilities/hospitals/etc.]. The PSW will support individuals with their daily living activities, promote independence, and enhance overall quality of life while maintaining dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
• Provide mobility support, including transferring and positioning
• Assist with feeding, meal preparation, and dietary monitoring
• Perform light housekeeping duties (laundry, cleaning, etc.)
• Monitor and report changes in clients’ physical, emotional, or mental condition
• Administer medications as directed (if certified to do so)
• Offer companionship and emotional support
• Encourage and support clients in recreational and therapeutic activities
• Follow individualized care plans and document all care provided accurately
• Adhere to safety and infection control protocols

Qualifications:

• Completion of a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) program
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Clear vulnerable sector police check
• Proof of immunizations and TB test as required
• Ability to lift, push, or pull moderate to heavy loads
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor
• Experience in home care, long-term care, or hospital settings preferred

Working Conditions:

• May involve travel to clients’ homes or work within care facilities
• Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required
• Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and assisting with transfers
